Paul met Dom in the early 1990's at a gig in Dublin and soon were busking and playing gigs all over Ireland. Eventually Dom moved to Denmark and Paul to Rome. Does it end there? Thankfully not! In the spring of 2014 Paul was asked to play some Irish music in his friend's pub for St.Patrick's day and two hours and many phone calls later The Boxty Lads was born and Dom had a ticket to Rome.
In 2015 Daniele (aka Tarta) joined in very unclear circumstances now lost in a fog of Guinness and shots and the band started playing venues around Rome. A successful tour of Denmark followed but the defining moment came in Autumn 2016, when Luca Balestrieri and Dario Vatalaro joined the band and the line-up was complete.
The five Boxty Lads played their first gig together in Rome in Sept 2016 before touring again in 2017-
The name The Boxty Lads is much more than a reference to a traditional Irish dish. Initially there were three major influences on the band: The Dubliners, The Bothy Band and Planxty (we stole the BO from one and the XTY from another to come up with Boxty). The Boxty Lads entered Soundfactor studios HQ on Nov 25th 2017 to start recording our first album “Home at Last”. As we got to know Carlo Delicati, (engineer and owner) and his family (thanks for the great food, wine and hospitality) we knew we had chosen the right studio and second home for the next 7 months.
We all want to thank our families, friends and loved ones who have helped us get here. A special thanks to Fabrizio Verduchi for all the album’s graphics. And a final thanks to Carlo without whose great patience, professionalism, friendship, engineering wizardry, and practical advice at all times this album would not exist.
